Viele Menschen, Kälte, abwechlungsreiche Wetterlage, Casino Royale, Borat, Starbucks, Suche nach anständigem Frühstück (lässt sich auf ganz Spanien ausweiten), überteuerte Tapas, beheiztes Hotelzimmer (!!!), das erste echte Weihnachtsfeeling, und ein geklautes Portemonnaie.
Lots of people, cold, changing weather, Casino Royale, Borat, Starbucks, looking for a decent breakfast (can be extended to the whole of Spain), overpriced tapas, heated hotel room (!!!), the first real xmas feeling, and a stolen purse.

Der Bahnhof Atocha liegt im Zentrum der Stadt, Nähe des Botanischen Gartens und diverser berühmter Museen. Die ehemalige Bahnhofshalle ist eine aus Gusseisen und Glas bestehende Dachkonstruktion im Jugendstil, welche zwischen 1888 und 1892 von dem aus Bilbao stammenden Architekten Alberto del Palacio Elissague erbaut wurde. Seit 1992 (Inbetriebnahme des neuen Bahnhofs) befindet sich in der Halle ein tropischer Palmengarten, welcher als Wartehalle und Treffpunkt genutzt wird.
Am 11. März 2004 wurde der Bahnhof (nicht aber die alte Halle) während der morgendlichen Hauptverkehrszeit Schauplatz der Madrider Zuganschläge. 191 Tote, 2051 Verletzte.
The train station Atocha lies in the center of the city, close to the botanical garden and various famous museums. The former main hall of the train station consists of an art nouveau roof made of steel and glass, constructed by the Bilboan architect Alberto del Palacio Elissague between 1888 and 1892. Since 1992 (opening of the new train station) the hall is being used as a concourse and meeting point.
On March 11th 2004 during the morning rush hour the train station (but not the old hall) was scene of the Madrid train attacks. 191 dead, 2051 injured.
